1. Requirements (2004-08-25):

• Have a license that is well-known and that allows what people have already been doing with ODMA.

• Require no administration nor registration and make it easy to incorporate the license and notices in covered materials.

• Have the explicit agreement of AIIM International, the copyright holder, to the use of the license.

• Complete this quickly and simply so that those who requested it are not delayed in their endeavors.

2. Constraints (2004-08-25)

• Do not restrict anything that people have already been able to do.
• Do not in any way limit the ability to employ the material and its derivatives in closed-source works, commercial or otherwise.  The contributors to ODMA were all in commercial firms that donated their efforts to achieve a community result that was too costly and restricted for any one of them to undertake independently. The tacit assumption of that agreement and the willingness to support something like the Simple DMware license was based on continued availability for commercial, closed-source usage.

3. Activities (2004-11-16)

• 2004-08-23: Establish this project

• 2004-08-24: Obtain reference materials on the Open Source Definition and The BSD License for comparison and review as part of appraisal of the draft ODMA license.

• 2004-08-25: Document the offered license draft.

• 2004-08-25: Determine the materials and the copyright dates to be covered.

• 2004-08-25: Derive a first-draft license that is a literal employment of the BSD template.

• 2004-08-25: Conduct Review and Obtain AIIM Approval

• 2004-11-12: Make adjustments as necessary to satisfy reviewers (no change at this point)

• 2004-11-16: Announce the license and make it available immediately for use and reference, with the following items carried out afterwards as part of a refresh of ODMA materials.

• Prepare collateral material useful to those wanting to find the original sources, wanting to understand the license, and wanting to honor it with derived materials
• Determine all existing components for which affixing of notices, licenses, and incorporation of copies of the license are desirable.
• Perform a refresh of downloadable materials so that future downloads will be accompanied by appropriate copies of the license and notices will be affixed in appropriate ways.
• Make announcements on the ODMA web site and elsewhere.

Update to reflect the approval of License 1.0 and its immediate availability for usage.

The  in-progress action has the green bar, the important, immediate actions are in green bold, and the subsequent, non-critical-path items are in bold gray.  This scheme moves forward through the actions as items are completed (blue bar) or abandoned (yellow bar).
