If Java is the answer, what is the question?

Are You suprised ?.  A set of Java interview questions.  Located by classmate David Hilton.

moskalyuk.com.  This site was flagged for its interview questions about Java.  I am clipping it because it is in Russia and has lots of nice Cyrillig material as well as a fair amount in English. I don't know if Blogger can handle it though.  ..7nbsp; Well, it passes through the XP clip-board from IE6.0 to Blog This! so we will see how much farther this will go. I will have to ask Xiao Hong about the preferred Chinese character set support.

UI Development and UI as Design of Experience

Open Prototyping.  The UI prototyping resource available at the MIT meida laboratory.

Group for User Interface Research - Projects - DENIM and SILK.  The Denim project page at UC Berkely.

Wired News: Etch a Site as Easy as Pie.  Here's a nice article on Denim, that takes people from storyboard to web site. It can also be used to develope desktop applications. There is an open prototyping website too, and Denim is open source for all platforms. Something for Norman and the rest of Group 3 to take a look at as we wrap up the Software Engineering group project.

Systems Architecture and Design

Development of Software Engineering Practice

When do we demonstrate that we are engineers?

I blogged this in the midst of a strenous Software Engineering module in my on-line M.Sc in IT program.  The problem of using the term, with its licensing implications, versus being a software engineer is also an interesting one.  What I noticed about the course on Software Engineering was that its conduct, and the use of a team project, brought up every software-engineering antipattern that seems to exist.  Since it is our experience that will matter, I wonder if the message of the delivery of the course will be one that has the participants be software-engineering averse.  Or maybe this is the powerful lesson that demonstrates both the challenge and the promise.  We'll see ...

The Explosion of the Ariane 5.  This article by Douglas Arnold provides highlights of the Ariane 5 loss, and links to other information on the software-related failure. Linked from the discussion assignments for our final week of an on-line M.Sc Software Engineering module.

City contains Albuquerque and Job Title contains Sr. Software Engineer Advanced Job Search Results - Help Wanted New Mexico.  Classmate Norman Frisa looked at want-ads for Software Engineers.  What interests me is the proportion that were actually software-engineering postions.  Also, there is an standard to find out about, «Candidate should possess the experience and skills necessary
to perform Software development to cost and schedule a
Software Development Process (MIL-STD-498 as a guide).»

Computer Bulletin: Careers Insider.  A personal profile of Dominic Burford that describes what it is like to be a software engineer, what Dominic likes about it, and how Dominic came to be a software engineer.

Sr. Software Engineer / Team Lead.  A position offering on the Internet, with an interesting number of requirements and restrictions.  From classmate Richard Gregory.

Computer Software Engineers.  From the Bureau of Labor Statistics "Occupational Outlook Handbook." The most-recent data in this report is apparently from 2000 and 2001, so the dot-com implosion had not been fully felt yet.  It is clear these are not programming positions, although an SE is expected to have been/be a strong programmer. There are some useful links on certification and detailed career information.   A find by classmate Annita Zirki.

Worldwide Institute of Software Architects - WWISA.  A link from Alan Partis on an organization that he is a member of. An interesting page and an useful resource to include in my resources on systems architecture.  Found through a link of classmate David Hilton.

10 Attributes of a Professional Software Engineer  Page by Alan Partis on software engineering and the big picture.  Very nice find by classmate David Hilton.

Software Engineer.  The Monster.com Career Advice column on software engineering. There is a confusion with the domain and the methodology, and interesting points nevertheless.  Another Tony Haight find.

Software Engineer Skills.  Another great find from Tony Haigh.  The full list, by Jack Harich, is fascinating for its annotations as much as the items themselves.

Software Engineering Courses MEng/BSc(Hons).  The curriculum at the University of Huddersfield, with concentration in Software Engineering at the MSc (5-year) level. An useful link on different approaches to SE curricula, from classmate Tony Haigh.

The Six Values of a Quality Culture.  This article resonates with several classmates in the Software Engineering course I am completing this week. John Rudge brings it up again around what one looks for in hiring a software engineer. This is a keeper.
