21st Urban
Data Management Symposium
Venice, Italy, 21-23 April
1999
Scope of the UDMS: UDMS, Urban Data Management Society, is a Society
which
organizes international symposia at various locations in order to
promote
the development of Urban Information Systems in Europe. The aim of
UDMS is
to provide a forum for people to discuss new approaches, to consider
new
technologies and to share practical experiences in the field of urban
data
management. After three years of collaboration within JEC, UDMS is
back!
The objectives are therefore to improve local government through
urban data
management, to increase knowledge and professionalism and to
spread
information and develop cooperation in this field within the
European
Community and Europe as a whole. This year, the general theme
is
"Information Technology in the service of local government planning
and
management", and the symposium is sponsored by the
Provincial
Government of Venice, Italy.
For this event, we are
especially looking for papers, tutorials and posters
on the following
topics:
- Organisation of the technical services of local
authorities
- Cadastral systems
- Shared use of geographic
information
- Metadata services clearing house
- Environmental information
in urban context
- Public Service Delivery: the role of local authorities and
private companies
- Portable and mobile GIS
- Integrating GIS into an
urban information system
- Augmented urban reality
- New technologies for
local service delivery and for the technical services of the local
authorities
- Groupware for urban planning and municipal management

Cooperative urban information systems
- Tele-geoprocessing and using of
telecommunications for urban management and monitoring
- Using Intranet and
Extranet technologies
- Urban Environment Monitoring
- GIS for public
participation and information to citizens
- Forum for citizen
discussions.
