From: trost-discuss-admin@lists.sourceforge.net on behalf of Dennis E. Hamilton [dennis.hamilton@acm.org] Sent: Sunday, May 01, 2005 19:42 To: TROST-discuss Subject: [TROST-discuss] Welcome to TROST-discuss [TROST-discuss] This is the inaugural post to the TROST-discuss mailing list. I want to greet those who come to the list to browse, to obtain assistance, to stick around and follow the discussions, and to contribute their experience, feedback, and suggestions. 1. HOW TO USE THE LIST 1.1 GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS about the list are on the web at http://lists.sourceforge.net/mailman/listinfo/trost-discuss 1.2 IF YOU ARE HAVING ANY DIFFICULTY with the list or are not sure what to do to get a question answered or subscribe to the list, you can always send an e-mail to mailto:trost-discuss-admin@lists.sourceforge.net Remember, the -admin address is for mail to reach a person, the list administrator (that's me a.k.a orcmid@users.sourceforge.net). 1.3 IF YOU ARE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, you can send requests to an automated responder by mailto:trost-discuss-request@lists.sourceforge.net Remember, the -request address is for mail that is received by the mailing-list request robot. The first request to make is one that has only the word "help" (no double-quotes) as the text of your e-mail message. The subject line can be blank. I often duplicate the request command in the subject so I'll recognize what this is about when I see a reply in my in box. 2. HOW TO SEE THE LIST 2.1 THIS IS A PUBLIC LIST. Everything that anyone sends to the list is copied to an archive that can be viewed on-line. The archive page for this list is at http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum=trost-discuss 2.2 IF YOU WANT TO SEE NEW POSTS, you can subscribe to the list. The listinfo page (1.1) is where you do that. You specify a password the gives you private control of your settings. You also provide an e-mail address that you want to receive list postings at. This must be a valid address where you receive mail and can reply to mail. A confirmation will be sent to that address. You must follow the instruction in that message to activate your subscription. 3. HOW TO POST TO THE LIST 3.1 ANYONE CAN SEND MESSAGES TO THIS LIST. Plaintext works best because the list goes to a large variety of recipients. Also, plaintext works best for people who receive digests with several postings combined into a single e-mail. To send a message to the list, mailto:TROST-discuss@lists.sourceforge.net 3.2 THAT'S ALL IT TAKES. If you want to see any replies or discussions of your post, it is wise to subscribe to the list first (2.2). But you don't have to do that. However, many people will assume that you are subscribed and reply only to the list. You should visit the list (2.1) for a while after you post to make sure you don't miss a response that you are interested in. 4. WHAT ELSE IS THERE? The TROST project is in its initial engagement stage. The material is sketchy and not well organized at this point. 4.1 THE MAIN PUBLIC WEB for the TROST Project is at http://TROSTing.org This site will be the first place where more-comprehensive information shows up. 4.2 THE SOURCEFORGE PROJECT PAGE, http://sourceforge.net/projects/trost/ (lower-case required), is where the packages and documentation will be developed and also expanded by community participation. This will start slower, but as TROST matures, this is where the action will be for those applying TROST frameworks and wanting to share and refine elements of the framework. 4.3 PROGRESS REPORTS AND PERIODIC UPDATES from me will be posted to the list. So you can check here. You can also watch the project page, or visit the TROSTing site from time-to-time, to see notices of what's new. 4.4 OTHER WAYS TO STAY INFORMED and to participate will be introduced as the project move ahead. There will be announcements of those developments on this list as well as on the project page and the web site. - Dennis E.
